British Museum Trip

As much as I wish this wasn't the case, I was unable to visit the British Museum to see the ancient relics of game boards and pieces on offer. This was mostly due to the fact that coach trips and long distance travel unsettle me quite a bit, so I instead spent my time doing research on the cultural impact that games such as Tafl had upon their respective civilizations. It was during this research that I stumbled upon a subject known as the "Game of the Gods", a Viking myth based around Ragnarok that, interestingly, uses the game Tafl as a symbolic reference towards the constant battles and machinations of the gods. While not a huge symbolic part of the legend known as "Völuspá", it is still a very interesting representation of how much cultural significance the game of Tafl had.
