Design Document

In keeping with my previous Tafl iteration, the focus of this design document was mostly around the aesthetic of the board and pieces rather than the actual iteration itself. This is where my previous research on Tafl came in extremely handy, as my previous research into the "Game of the Gods" provided a very interesting avenue for aesthetic design: After all, no part of the Viking mythological saga is more engrained in popular media than the end-time myth of Ragnarok.

This provided a very interesting and thematic route for the game pieces, with normal Viking warriors backed up by the Norse gods (Mainly Odin), fighting an undead force spearheaded by the 4 main threats of Ragnarok (Fenrir, Jormungandr, Surtr and Loki), which coincidentally fit with the 4 separate edges. Research into Viking artwork, especially those engraved into ancient Viking runestones also provided fantastic visual research for both pieces and the game board.
